About HomeDims

About HomeDims: dimension drawings in inches and centimeters for everyday home items

HomeDims is a reference for the sizes of everyday things around the home: mattresses and beds, kitchen counters, business cards and steel drums. Each page leads with a dimension drawing in inches and centimeters, then answers the practical question: will it fit?

What you will find here

Pages are built like a plan sheet. A labeled drawing at true proportion comes first, then a table of standard sizes, then the clearances people forget, such as walking space around a bed or knee space under a counter. Where sizes vary by maker, we say so and give the range.

Where the numbers come from

Bed sizes follow the long-standing US industry convention and are labeled as common standards. Other sheets name their source on the page: kitchen clearances follow the NKBA Kitchen Planning Guidelines, accessible work-surface height follows the 2010 ADA Standards, card sizes follow national print conventions and ISO ID-1, and drum sizes come from supplier size charts that differ by maker. A typical size is never presented as a legal standard. Metric values use the exact factor 1 inch = 25.4 mm.

What HomeDims is not

  • It is not a substitute for the spec sheet of the product you are buying.
  • It is not a building-code reference; permits and codes vary by location.
  • It does not sell products or take referral payments.

How a sheet is checked

The HomeDims team draws and writes each page. On 12 October 2026 we checked the tables on the home page: all 12 mattress dimensions in centimeters equal the inch value times 2.54 rounded to 0.1, and all 12 room-fit values equal the bed width plus 48 inches and the bed length plus 24 inches. Each drawing uses one scale per sheet, so proportions can be read by eye. A page’s “updated” date changes only when its content does.
